# Shop the look: making campaign photos shoppable

October 16, 2026

A strong campaign photo makes people want the whole look: the jacket, the shirt underneath, the trousers, the shoes. Then the shopper tries to buy it and the search begins. They open the search bar, scroll through categories, try to match the right colour among three similar ones. Often they give up halfway, or buy just one piece.

Shoppable images, usually called shop the look, close the gap between what the shopper sees and what they can actually put in the basket. Here is how they work, where they make sense on your site and what to check before you switch them on.

## The photo inspires, the site makes people search

Campaign photos and lookbooks are expensive: the shoot, the styling, post production, selection. They are also the content shoppers enjoy looking at most. Yet on many online stores they remain decorative images, disconnected from the products they show.

So the styling work is lost. The shopper has to redo it alone, piece by piece, and every extra step is another chance to give up. Those who get to the end often buy a single item, even though they were interested in the whole outfit.

There is also a matter of accuracy. In a photo, a pair of trousers can look navy or charcoal depending on the light. If the shopper picks the wrong colour, the look at home is not the one they saw, and a return becomes likely.

## How shoppable images work

The idea is simple: each garment visible in the photo is linked to the matching product in the catalogue. Dots appear on the garments in the image. Tapping one shows the key details and lets the shopper open the product page.

More complete versions add two features:

- **A panel with the whole look.** It gathers every item in the photo, lets the shopper choose colour and size for each, and adds them to the basket together.
- **Similar alternatives.** If an item does not appeal or is not available, the shopper sees the closest options from the same catalogue instead of leaving the page.

For the shopper the journey changes: from photo to basket in a few taps, without going through search and without guessing which product matches the one in the picture.

## Where to use them on your site

Not every page has the same potential. Shoppable images usually work best in these places:

- **Homepage and campaign banners**, where shoppers arrive with a less specific goal and more appetite for ideas.
- **Lookbooks and collection pages**, which on many sites are plain photo galleries with no links.
- **Product pages**, where an on-model photo shows the item alongside other pieces from the catalogue.
- **Editorial and seasonal pages**, such as edits for an occasion or gift ideas.

It is worth starting with a few high-traffic pages, checking that everything works, and then rolling out further.

## Completing the look on the product page

There is a second moment when shoppers think in outfits: once they have chosen an item and wonder what to wear it with. Here a campaign image matters less than a concrete suggestion at the bottom of the product page: two or three pieces that work together, with a name for the look and the total price.

For this to work, the combinations need to be believable and in stock. An outfit with a sold-out piece is frustrating, unless the shopper can swap just that item and keep the rest. The same goes for seasonal sense: a heavy wool coat next to a linen shirt helps nobody.

## What to check

Before you make your photos shoppable, go through this list:

- Make sure every item in the photo exists in the catalogue in the same colour shown in the image.
- Check that the price, colour and sizes shown on the dots match the product page.
- Decide what happens when an item is sold out in that colour. The shopper needs an alternative, not a dead end.
- Test the full journey on a phone. Dots should be easy to tap and should not cover the garment.
- Choose your photos carefully. Images with too many elements, or accessories you do not sell, confuse shoppers.
- Update the links at every season change, or old photos will lead to products that are no longer in the range.
- Measure the effect with an A/B test on average order value and items per order, comparing pages with and without shoppable images.

## How We Wear does it with VisualFlow and StyleFlow

With [VisualFlow](https://wewear.tech/en/visualflow?hsLang=en), dots are placed automatically on the garments that make up the look, in both product and campaign photos. Tapping a dot shows the name, price, colour and available sizes, and opens the product page.

The "similar items" button opens the closest alternatives from your catalogue, filterable by type, colour and season, and it can be switched on in several sections of the site. The "Shop the look" panel gathers every item in the photo: the shopper picks colour and size for each, sees the total and adds everything to the basket together. If an item is out of stock in the chosen colour, VisualFlow suggests alternatives.

[StyleFlow](https://wewear.tech/en/styleflow?hsLang=en) works on the product page with a "Complete the look" section: outfits of two or three pieces from your catalogue, each with the name of the look and the total price. Out-of-stock items are flagged and can be swapped without losing the rest of the outfit.

Here too, our advice is to start with an A/B test on a few pages and measure the effect on your own orders. If you would like to see VisualFlow and StyleFlow on your photos, [book a 30-minute demo](https://wewear.tech/en/contact-us?hsLang=en).

## Frequently asked questions

### What does shop the look mean?

It means making a photo shoppable: each garment visible in the image is linked to the catalogue product, so the shopper can see the details, choose colour and size and add to basket without searching for each item.

### What happens if an item in the photo is out of stock?

With VisualFlow, if an item is out of stock in the chosen colour, alternatives from the brand's catalogue are suggested. With StyleFlow, out-of-stock items in an outfit are flagged and can be swapped without losing the rest of the look.

### What is the difference between VisualFlow and StyleFlow?

VisualFlow works on product and campaign photos, with dots on the garments, similar items and the Shop the look panel. StyleFlow works on the product page with a Complete the look section that suggests outfits of two or three pieces with the look name and total price.
