# 3D body scanner in store: what it is for and what to ask

A customer's body measurements are one of the most useful pieces of data an apparel brand can have, and one of the hardest to collect well. A tape measure and a form give different numbers depending on who measures. A body scanning booth solves this for anyone who can bring people to a physical place: a store, a showroom, a production department.

This guide looks at what a booth like our 3D Body Scanner does, who it is for and what to ask before installing one.

## How a booth scan works

1. **Entry and positioning.** The person steps into the booth and stands on the floor markers. No complex poses are needed; the operator starts the scan.
2. **Scan.** Twelve sensors capture the body geometry together in a few seconds.
3. **Model and measurements.** The system generates the 3D body model and the full set of body measurements.
4. **Using the data.** Measurements can feed size recommendation with SizeFlow, product development in CLO3D and your management systems.

Processing happens locally: the data stays in the booth and the output is available on the management PC.

Precise measurements to produce garments on the customer's actual body, with no manual transcription.

Collecting your own customers' measurements lets you build size charts that reflect their bodies, instead of standard charts.

Aggregated scans show what the people who buy from you actually look like, which is useful for design, size ranges and assortment.

## What to ask before installing one

- **Space.** The assembled booth takes about 1.7 square metres, plus room around it to step in and out.
- **Who runs it.** You need an operator to start sessions and guide people.
- **Where the data goes.** With local processing the data stays in the booth; you need to decide how and where to export it to your systems.
- **What it connects to.** Size recommendation, product development or both: the workflow after the scan changes accordingly.
